Earning a letter in the Lawrence High School Band program is based on a point system.  This point system rewards band students that go BEYOND the normal expectations of the class.  The top 1/3 of the class point totals will earn a letter in band.  The minimum point total to letter will be different from year to year.

Seniors that participate in the band program both semesters for 3 years will automatically letter regardless of point totals.

One point for maintaining an “A” average in Band

Two points for a “I” at a large group Concert Band Festival –  Mid Box 4 or higher Marching Band Festival.

One point for a “II” at a large group  Concert Band Festival - Low Box 4 for Marching Festival.

One point for a “I” rating at a Jazz Band Festival for each Jazz group

One point for auditioning for KMEA Northeast District Honor Band/Full Orchestra

One point for membership in the KMEA Northeast District Honor Band/Full Orchestra

One point for auditioning for KMEA Northeast District Honor Jazz Band

One point for membership in the KMEA Northeast District Honor Jazz Band

Two points for membership in the KMEA All-State Band, Orchestra  or Jazz Band

Two points for each instrumental solo and ensemble receiving a “I” at Regional Music Festival

One point for each instrumental solo and ensemble receiving a “II” at Regional Music Festival

Two points for each instrumental solo and ensemble receiving a “I” at State Music Festival

One point for each instrumental solo and ensemble receiving a “II” at State Music Festival

One point for playing in LHS Pep Band (5 Games) Bonus Games 6 = 1.5, 7= 2, 8 = 2.5, 9 = 3, 10 = 3.5

Three points for LHS Field Conductor

One point for LHS Marching Lion Section Leader

One point for each of the following: Drum Line, Color Guard, Full Orchestra, Pit Orchestra for Musical, Youth Symphony, Concerto Audition, Lawrence Youth Orchestra,(Others TBA)

One point for each June marching rehearsal (1, 2, or 3 points)

One point for each semester of private lessons on wind or percussion instrument.  Piano will also count!
